Obverse: Generals Petain, Nivelle and Castelnau in roundels along the top perimeter, five-line legend in central field, laurel wreath at bottom and side perimeter; Reverse: Allegory of Verdun standing, facing, and holding sword, Marianne standing to Verdun's left holding French flag and an oak sprig; cityscape in background, defeated imperial eagle underfoot below at left, coat-of-arms of Verdun and those of the French Republic with legend below at right. Cornucopia privy mark. The Battle occurred in 1916 and this medal was catalogued starting in 1917.
