FRANCE. Joan of Arc Navy Cruiser Bronze Medal, ND (ca. 1930). CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
By Georges-Henri Prud'homme. 58mm. Obverse: Bust of Joan of Arc, facing left, perimeter legend; Reverse: French Navy's training cruiser sailing left, legend above, escutcheon below superimposed on an anchor, all on a mass of laurel leaves and berries. The Joan of Arc was a training cruiser used to train cadets - hence the "ECOLE" in the reverse legend. It was built in the 1920's, made its maiden voyage in 1931, and was eventually retired in 1964. An interesting maritime-themed medal; a few spots and some rub on the cheek, otherwise choice. To view all items from the PHG Collection click
