FRANCE. Centennial Agricultural Fair in Creon and the Entre-Deux-Mers Region Silvered Bronze Medal, 1935. UNCIRCULATED.
By Alfred Borrel. 49mm. Obverse: Partially-draped female allegory standing and facing, three youths offering the fruits of their horticultural labors, exergue below; Reverse: Four-line legend in central field, beaded inner border, perimeter legend between beaded border and rim. The obverse dates from the early 1870's for a French horticultural award medal. Forrer notes that "Among the modern French medalists ... Borrel holds a place of honor both for the technical beauty of his work and the rare grace of his conceptions. His productions indeed will ever attract the admiration of the expert in medallic art."
