FRANCE. Commemoration of French Naval Vessels named "Glory" Bronze Medal, 1935. Paris Mint. UNCIRCULATED.
By Georges Guiraud. 68mm. Obverse: Ship under sail, three-quarters right, "GLOIRE" and "1935" below, perimeter legend comprised of dates, and constellations at the four cardinal points; Reverse: Female rider on a Pegasus emerging from the waters, facing right, two swords and a victory wreath in her raised right hand, rays emanating from behind. Cornucopia privy mark. A celebration of the various frigates, ships of the line, cruisers, and the first ocean-going iron-clad battleship named "Gloire" from 1692 up to the medal's issue. A charming and interesting maritime medal. A few very minor spots of verdigris on the obverse noted for completeness. To view all items from the PHG Collection click here.
