GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, ND (ca. 978-85). York Mint; Thorstan, moneyer. Aethelred II. PCGS MS-62.
S-1144; N-766. Obverse: Diademed and draped bust right; Reverse: Manus Dei descending from clouds; barred Λ ω (alpha & omega) across field. A stunning and deeply toned example, this piece retains much charming luster and limited evidence of handling on the surfaces. Nicely struck for the type, and altogether a very appealing example.
Estimate: $600 - $900
