NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Madura Island - Mexico. Sultanate of Sumenep. Real Batu (8 Reales), ND (ca. 1814). Sultan Paku Nata Ningrat. PCGS VF-20.
KM-197. Countermarked on Cob 8 Reales, Mexico City (KM-47A). Weight: 27.23 gms. Despite the evident circulation wear, the Mexican host coin displays rather bright surfaces with light toning and a bold denomination mark beside the full Habsburg shield. On the reverse, a well-placed counterstamp identifies the piece as an issue of Madura Island. A pleasingly problem-free example of this interesting type.
Estimate: $250 - $400
