NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Madura Island - Mexico. Sultanate of Sumenep. Real Batu (8 Reales), ND (ca. 1814). Sultan Paku Nata Ningrat. PCGS Genuine--Graffiti, Fine Details.
KM-197. Countermarked on a 1729-Mo R Cob 8 Reales, Mexico City (KM-47A). Weight: 22.47 gms. An uncommonly detailed example of this countermarked type, featuring a mintmark, assayer's initial, and decipherable date on the obverse. The distinct five-petalled flower countermark of Madura is seen on the reverse. Plenty of tooling and graffiti is evident, though it is confined to the flat peripheries and as such does not affect the details. A strong example despite its drawbacks.
Estimate: $200 - $350
