SOUTH AFRICA. Pond, 1892. Pretoria Mint. NGC AU-58.
Fr-2; KM-10.1; Hern-Z44. Double shaft wagon tongue variety. Mintage: 16,000. From one of the SCARCEST dates in the series, few survivors have trickled town through the generations and hardly any can rival the present example in preservation. Blended light pale white and warm orange-gold colors provide strong eye appeal. Softly frosted luster is nearly full in the virtual absence of wear, and aside for a few stray nicks, both sides remain rather smooth. Bound to be snapped up by some savvy collector looing to avoid the financial and time-draining headache of obtaining a Mint State piece.
Estimate: $1000 - $1200
