FRANCE. Teacher's Association Bronze Medal, ND (ca. 1920). UNCIRCULATED.
By Charles Pillet. 35mm. Obverse: Female allegory standing, holding flag, looking right and placing a laurel wreath on the head of a young male who holds aloft his rifle and target; blank target on laurel and oak sprigs with ribbon inscribed "PRO PATRIA" at lower left, shooting range in background at right; Reverse: Inset central field with beaded border, with legend "ASSOCIATION DES INSTITUTEURS", surrounded by mixed oak and laurel wreath. A number of medals were made for this organization by leading medalists of the day - including Mattei, Erdmann, Rivet, and (in this case) Pillet. The other medals are more general in their treatment of the theme of teaching, whereas the Pillet medal focuses on shooting specifically. To view all items from the PHG Collection click
