SWITZERLAND. Swiss Confederation Shooting Festival in Fribourg White Metal Medal, 1881. PCGS MS-62.
R-415c; Martin-228. By Edouard Durussel, Bern. 33mm. Obverse: Helvetia, facing, embracing allegories of Fribourg and Solothurn, each with their Coat of Arms; perimeter legend above, dates in exergue below; Reverse: View of city and Grand Pont suspension bridge, Arms of Switzerland superimposed on laurel sprigs below; perimeter legend above. A charming snapshot of the city with its iconic bridge which would be removed four decades later. Lovely hints of cobalt on the medal surfaces; marks in the soft metal indicative of the grade. Attractive. Note that the "R-415a" designation on the holder is in error; R-415c is the correct designation for a white metal specimen in the most recent edition of Richter.
