R-596a; Martin-299. Unattributed to a specific medalist. 40mm. Pierced, likely as-made. Obverse: Six-line legend within laurel wreath; Reverse: Crossed rifles superimposed on target and crossed swords, hat resting on target above, powderhorn hangs below; banderole above and half-wreath of oak below. A straightforward medal without the complexities of history or allegory. An appealing piece on lustrous white metal with the slight abrasions indicative of the grade and inherent with the softness of the metal. Listed as "Rare" in Richter.
