SWITZERLAND. Great Shoot at the National Exposition in Geneva Silver Medal, 1896. PCGS SPECIMEN-63.
R-691b; Martin-382. By Hugues Bovy, Geneva, and Francois Beauverd, Geneva. 47mm. Obverse: Cartouche with the Swiss Arms, flanked by an heraldic eagle and a key from the Geneva Arms, radiant sun with " IHS" above; perimeter legend; Reverse: Female Swiss archer standing, facing right, flora at her feet and mountainscape in the background; perimeter legend above left. A medal which marries traditional design elements, albeit with a somewhat modern lettering style (obverse) with a much more modern reverse design - very interesting as such. A very attractive specimen with toning that complements the design elements. Note that the "R-691a" designation on the holder is inconsistent with the most current edition of Richter; R-691b is now the correct designation for a silver specimen.
