SWITZERLAND. St. Gallen Cantonal Shooting Festival in Gossau Silver Medal, 1910. PCGS SPECIMEN-65.
R-1183a; Martin-581. By Holy Frères, St.-Imier. 27mm. Obverse: Bust of shooter at left, facing right, wearing tricorne hat; rifle behind, date and location in field at right; Reverse: Roaring bear seated left, holding coat-of-arms; shooting hall in background to left, legends above. This issue has less of the ornamental exuberance often seen on earlier shooting medals, and yet encapsulates much symbolic imagery within its clean design. A clear and attractive example of the evolving medallic art form at the end of the twentieth century's first decade. To view all items from the PHG Collection click
