SWITZERLAND. Free Shoot in Winterthur Bronze Medal, 1877. PCGS SPECIMEN-64.
R-1739c; Martin-1027. By Edouard Durussel, Bern. 46mm. Obverse: Arms of Thurgau in the center, superimposed on crossed rifles and a sprig of oak, legend immediately above and below; Arms of the (then) 22 Cantons of Switzerland around the perimeter; Reverse: Helvetia, seated, facing slightly right, young man with rifle at right, standing and facing left, pointing toward the city of Winterthur in the background; perimeter legend above, date in exergue below. Note this is essentially a re-used design from the festival one year prior in Lausanne (R-1562), modified for the Winterthur location. A very attractive medal with glossy mahogany surfaces. Listed as "Very Rare" in Richter. Note that the "R-1739b" designation on the holder is inconsistent with the most current edition of Richter; R-1739c is now the correct designation for a bronze specimen.
