R-1939B (formerly R-1855a); Martin-1093. By Jakob Haller, Hans Gisler, Walter Baltensperger, Zürich. 60mm. Engraved and awarded to Walter Schalch of Niederglatt (born in 1916) for the 300m competition with a score of 68 points. Obverse: Zürich Arms between laurel sprigs, inscription above; perimeter legend with additional inscription at the 6:00 position; Reverse: Bust of Col. Johannes Stapfer; perimeter legend. Unusual for the period, this is a cast medal. An attractive piece with an umber patina and satiny surfaces. Listed as "Rare" in Richter. Richter notes that dates on these medals refer to the birthyear of the awardee, not the award year. Therefore, the date on the holder is in error.
