Republic copper button 8 Reales ND (circa 1844), Trelon, Weldon et Weil fabric (Paris), KM-PnA3, MS64 BN NGC. Although graded Brown by NGC, this piece has abundant of flashy yellow-green luster, particularly on the obverse. A scarce sample or presentation piece from the Trelon, Weldon et Weil manufacture in Paris, who operated from 1844 onwards and manufactured buttons to be sold mainly in South America. Numerous pieces are known coupling one side of the present piece with the inscription "PARIS" "T. W. et W." in two lines and a shank attached on the other side. This pinpoints their origin to the aforementioned fabric, with the shank tell-tale of its true purpose and nature as a button. Pedigreed to the Medina and Rafael Gonzalez collections where it was (incorrectly) included as a monetary pattern due to its rather high quality engraving, and the finest specimen seen by the cataloguer. Very scarce in this quality.
