Sebastião I gold 500 Reis ND (1557-78), Lisbon mint, after 2 January 1560, Fr-41, Gomes-57.04, XF40 NGC. Although crudely struck and slightly off-center, this piece has a simple charm as do many early Portuguese issues. The arms and cross retain excellent detail and the legends are fully legible.
