Joao VI silver 80 Reis (1816-26), Lisbon mint, Gomes-J6.09.01, KM- (unlisted in error), MS65 NGC. A Choice specimen of this handsome little coin, obviously very scarce in this select quality. In their entry of KM-375, the authors obviously confuse the type corresponding to the present coin with the very rare similar issue of Pedro IV (Gomes-P4.04.01, listed at E5,000 in XF with the corresponding PETRUS IV in the legend). Since KM-375 refers apparently (but mistakenly, since such an issue does not exist) to a Joao VI issue with the PETRUS IV legend, they also skip the type corresponding to the present coin in the process. NGC's perpetuating the mistake is then easily explained. From The Collection of Dr. Roger R. McFadden
