Mitad 20 Tokens of 19th Century, One score of popular copper and brass tokens denominated as MITAD, this lot opens with five pieces of earlier issues, two of which are dated 1855 and 1858. The earliest are a well-circulated trio of the Matos 29mm copper 1840 overstrikes shown by Eklund 1160 and Fonrobert (in 1877). The other fifteen examples, all different, include six of the smaller diameter varieties (about 17 to 20 mm.) and nine with the more typical larger diameter (often 22 -23 mm). Correlation of several to items in lots 26505 and 26506 of the Heritage April 2013 CICF auction is readily apparent; those 31 pieces realized a composite $4230. As with that earlier batch from the same collection, these range from well worn to nearly mint state with the average quality likely being typical for its era. Attributions are likely but tentative; thus Sold as is, NO Return. From The Dana Roberts Collection and Study Group
