Tokens 68 Denominated in Reales or Real, Brass or copper tokens total 43 pieces, likely all different issues, while the other 25 comprising this collection component are CuNi or aluminum or zinc. A few have countermarks and a couple are holed, usually for cancellation purposes. Of particular interest to specialists is the inclusion of six different numeric values for pieces whose denomination is based on the national REAL (Reales) system. In actual commerce among the consumers, the mental and verbal usage of "Reales" extended well past the legal adoption of Centavos. Cuartillas or ¼ Reales number two. Thirteen examples of ½ Real include 9 in brass or copper. An unusual brass ¾ Real is its sole representative. 28 pieces indicate 1 (or UN) Real including 18 in either brass or copper. Two Reales number 22 pieces including 13 in brass or copper. Four Reales are represented by only 2 pieces, one in aluminum and one copper. Pieces which specify Real (or Reales) include both 1/4R, the 3/4R, all the brass but only one of the non-brass ½ Real pieces, all the brass but only half the non-brass 1-Real items, 16 of the 2-Reales including 10 of the brass samples, and both the 4R examples. Generally the more rural locales tend to specify the Real designation. While most attributions are likely, they cannot be guaranteed. Quality is typical for such issues. Sold as is, NO ReturnFrom The Dana Roberts Collection and Study Group

Estimate: 500-1000 USD
