Tokens 124 from Fincas and Enterprises, Copper or brass issues total at least 86 pieces, hopefully nearly all different as such was the clear intent, while 38 other tokens are mostly made of CuNi or other "light-colored" metals. Many seem to be of late 19th century origin including several clearly from the 1870's-1880s. Perhaps the "earliest and most desirable of such tokens" according to Rulau is his pre-1877 Quz-61 of Francisco Sanchez valued by him in VF at $150; it is very popular with USA collectors as it features the same Indian bust as used on the USA Indian cent. Over half of this group has a numeric expression of their unit value, but only a few specify "REAL" as the intended unit although such exclusion definitely does not preclude it. At least 30 are valued at one (1) unit of something, while 2 Reales are second in prevalence. Three larger pieces are "1 Peso" items. A couple of silver medals are thrown in for no apparent reason. While the great bulk of the pieces are in individual paper envelopes, often with elaborate descriptions and comments, there is one bag of 23 pieces apparently never individually attended to but with several of obvious interest. A few "sets" of some one finca, or single enterprise, are interspersed. Overall this is likely a good overall assemblage for a new collector to gain exposure to the country's extensive token usage. While most attributions are likely, they certainly cannot be guaranteed, particularly relative to similar emissions in nearby rural El Salvador. Quality is typical for such issues, most of which heavily circulated, often for decades, in the rural areas where "small change" was never plentiful. Sold as is, NO ReturnFrom The Dana Roberts Collection and Study Group

Estimate: 500-1000 USD
