Honduras
Bonito Brass Token Trio, Simon Barrio 23mm, 4.1 gram brass clearly shows BONITO, Honduras and its value of ½ Real; this very attractive VF+ example, obtained by Dana Roberts around 1973 from the famed Honduras specialist and expert Holland Wallace, remains quite rare and apparently was the only such piece Dana ever traced over 35 years of study. Rulau does not list it nor the issuing person from Atlantida Department. Second item is Rulau Atl-3 of E.P. Dutu produced in approximately the same size, of the same metal and circulating valuation but with a different "flavor"; AVF with some minor surface marks on one side. Final of the scarce trio is Jose Ruiz example of same circulating value and same metal but a tad bit smaller at 21.5mm; this nice VF item, as well as the second piece, was obtained in 1978. Bonito is famous for its Pico Bonito National Park, near La Ceiba and the general area where the banana trade first flourished in Honduras in the final two decades of the 19th century.From The Dana Roberts Collection and Study Group
