Netherlands New Guinea 8.12.1954 P-11a PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ 1 Gulden

Netherlands New Guinea was a territory located in the western half of the island of New Guinea, which is now known as Papua, Indonesia. It was a colony of the Netherlands from 1949 until 1962 when it was transferred to the United Nations administration and eventually integrated into Indonesia. The last holdout of the once vast Dutch Colonial empire in Asia, banknote collectors will know the territory by their two series of banknotes. This is the initial denomination of the second series, which was issued in 1954 and circulated until withdrawn in the early 1960s. Scarce in the best of grades, this example is fresh to the market and tied for finest in the PMG population report. Overall, a wonderful example from this fascinating and underrated series.
