Rhodesia 1.7.1966 P-29a PMG About UNC 55 EPQ 5 Pounds (Consecutive Lot of 3)
A consecutive lot of three of this popular type from Rhodesia (modern-day Zimbabwe). Just three prefixes were issued (J/3 to J/5), making this trio part of the final prefix. This type was printed locally by the Reserve Bank of Rhodesia and was part of the final series that still featured the portrait of Queen Elizabeth the II at right. The series introduced in 1970 no longer featured the portrait of the Monarch and were denominated in the new Rhodesian Dollar amidst struggles for recognition of independence, which had been declared unilaterally by Ian Smith and his cabinet in 1965. Fantastic originality is seen on this trio, and the assigned grade is perhaps a bit harsh, as the notes face up like UNCs in the PMG holders.
