Southern Rhodesia 10.9.1955 P-17 PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ 1 Pound
An amazing offering from Southern Rhodesia and an opportunity for the Commonwealth specialist not to be missed. This is the single finest example of this important and short-lived type that was issued by the Central Africa Currency Board in 1955 only. A previous type (Pick-13) was issued by the Southern Rhodesia Currency Board with the same design. Both types are downright rare in better grades, and an offering of any uncirculated Southern Rhodesia note is highly unusual. 
This 1 Pound features the first prefix for this type and is seen with the Jeffreys & Grafftey-Smith signature combination. The note itself is fresh and original, with exceptional eye-appeal. A Gem Uncirculated example of this type has not traded at public auction in at least the past decade; a single such listing in Track & Price from 2021 is an erroneous listing, and the only result that is comparable dates back to September 2020, when a Choice UNC 63 EPQ example brought $5400 elsewhere. The example offered here is far superior and is the ultimate example of this classic and rare type.
