IONIA, Smyrna. Circa 115-105 BC. Æ (20mm, 7.91 g, 12h). Semagoras, magistrate. Laureate head of Apollo right / Homer seated left, resting chin on hand and holding scepter; monogram and ΣHMAΓOPAΣ to left. Milne, Autonomous, Period XII, 249; SNG Copenhagen 1150. Attractive dark green surfaces. Good VF.

This type is often referred to as a 'Homereum,' based on a passage in Strabo's Geographica (xiv, i.37): "[T]he Smyrnaeans also lay especial claim to the poet [Homer] and indeed a bronze coin of theirs is called a Homereum."
