In regards to the chop-marking of Neapolitan bronzes at Minturnae, Stannard writes that "[a]ll coins are marked on the obverse, never the reverse. The cuts were not intended to divide the coin, and are not particularly deep. A cold chisel rather than a knife was probably used, as the 'V' of the cutting edge is quite wide. There is no sign of flattening on the reverse, so the coins were probably set on a soft surface for chopping." For more see C.
