Netherlands, Ducat 1651 - Gelderland, Harderwijk

Probably one of only two dates of ducats minted under the mintmaster Gerrit Sluysken, who held this office in the years 1651–1652. A new image of the Gelderland ducat, introduced by newly hired die sinker, Geurt Hoxter. A careful, coarsely engraved image and letters in the legend, reminiscent of the style of the then workshop of the mint in Utrecht. On the reverse, a legend unseen on the Netherlands ducats, with the word BELGI broken between the lines. Such writing is known from only two examples of this date. The word BELGI is also rarely found on the reverse of ducats from this period.

Mint, outstanding condition. A lot of gloss, deeply struck specimen. Rare B/ELGI variety.

Tylko jeden egzemplarz w gradingu NGC został oceniony wyżej (MS 62). Menniczy, piękny dukat. Głęboko wybity, z dużą ilością połysku.

Dodatkowo będący rzadką odmianą - na rewersie niespotykany na dukatach niderlandzkich zapis legendy, z łamaniem słowa BELGI między wierszami. Taki zapis znany jest z zaledwie dwóch egzemplarzy tego rocznika. Słowo BELGI jest równie rzadko spotykane na rewersie dukatów z tego okresu.

Prawdopodobnie jeden z zaledwie dwóch roczników dukatów wybitych pod zarządem mincmistrza Gerrita Sluyskena, który sprawował ten urząd w latach 1651-1652.

Nowy wizerunek dukata Geldrii, wprowadzony przez świeżo zatrudnionego rytownika Geurta Hoxtera. Staranny, grubo ryty wizerunek oraz litery w legendzie, przypominające stylem ówczesny warsztat mennicy w Utrechcie.
