Amstelodami: Apud Danielem Elsevirium, 1671. Two parts in one volume. Small 4to [25 by 19.5 cm], contemporary full brown speckled calf; spine with five raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt; board edges decorated in gilt; page edges speckled red. Finely engraved portrait of the author by Nicolaus Heinsius; (46), 917, (51) pages; title printed in red and black; woodcut headpieces, tailpieces and initials; engravings of coins throughout the text. Spine head split; binding with moderate wear, but sound and attractive; near fine. The first illustrated edition of this important work. Babelon, page 105: "Ezechiel Spanheim (b. 1629 † 1710) was part of that exceptional group of scholars who came together at Rome under the reign of Queen Christina." Bassoli 30: "that great work of Ezechiel Spanheim... represent[s] the seventeenth century 'peak' of classical numismatics.
