Grueber, Herbert A. MEDALLIC ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE HISTORY OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND TO THE DEATH OF GEORGE II. London: Printed by the Trustees of the British Museum, 1904–1911. Nineteen parts complete, bound in four volumes. Folio, slightly later dark blue cloth, gilt. General title; preface; indexes; individual titles; 183 superb plates, each with accompanying descriptive text. Bindings a little worn and sunned; one leaf with marginal repairs. Very good. An original set of the 183 superb collotype plates issued to accompany the two volumes of text written by Edward Hawkins and A.W. Grueber and published by the British Museum in 1885. It covers British medals from the time of Edward III up to 1760 and is the most comprehensive visual record of the series. It remains a key reference on British medals issued during this period relating to America. Clain-Stefanelli 14691*. Grierson 165 and 264: "L'ouvrage le plus important." Manville 631.
