Two volumes, complete. 4to, original matching red cloth lettered in white. 740 pages total; text illustrations; 42 color plates, plus occasional unnumbered full-page color enlargements. Fine. The first translation into English of the very scarce ten-volume supplement to Gerard van Loon's enormously important Beschryving der Nederlandsche historipenningen. The Supplement, or Vervolge, was originally published between 1822 and 1869 by the Second Section of the Royal Dutch Institute of Science, Literature and Fine Arts, and its translation into English is a huge achievement. The reproduction of the original engravings is very well done, and the additional color plates photographically illustrating the medals are highly welcome. Still the standard reference on 899 historical medals issued between 1716 and 1806.
