Nocq, H. LES MÉDAILLES D'ANTONIO PISANO DIT LE PISANELLO. Paris: Chez Léon Marotte, 1914. Folio [32 by 25 cm], recent brown antiqued quarter calf with green linen sides; spine with four raised bands, ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Frontispiece reproduction of Pisanello's sketch of John VIII Palaiologos; 32 leaves of text, mostly printed on one side, occasional fine lithographic illustrations on tinted backgrounds; 24 exceptional heliotype plates, each depicting both sides of a medal attributed to Pisanello. Later pages with some marginal discoloration, never affecting plates or text. Near fine. Number 29 of only 125 copies printed of this exceptional work. Skillfully printed on fine paper, and with magnificent illustrations, it is one of the most beautiful of 20th-century books on medals. This is the first copy we have handled in the past thirty years.
