Woodward, W. Elliot. CATALOGUE OF J.S. TWINING'S COLLECTION OF GOLD, SILVER AND COPPER AMERICAN COINS, WITH A LITTLE COLLECTION OF BRIC-A-BRAC, WASHINGTON PITCHERS AND JAPANESE CURIOS. New York, Bangs, April 27–29, 1886. 8vo, recent brown half calf, decorated in blind, with marbled sides; spine ruled and lettered in gilt; original paper covers bound in. 67, (1) pages; 1506 lots; 1 heliotype plate. Printed on thick paper. Hand-priced in ink. Front paper cover discolored; else fine. Adams 83, with plate. Rated A for colonials and tokens, B for large cents, proofs and early silver, and A– overall. Includes a Nova Constellatio "bit," which had previously been offered in Woodward's 73rd sale, but which did not there meet the $500 reserve. WEW states that he had declined an offer of $300 for the piece, which he probably regretted as it brought $275 here. The plate illustrates colonials (including a Gloriam Regni 5 sols and the "bit"), early large cents, a 1796 half cent, and half dimes (including an 1802). Davis 1189. Ex David F. Fanning Numismatic Literature, Auction I, lot 754, since bound; ex Syd Martin Library.
