Yeoman, R.S., et al. HANDBOOK OF UNITED STATES COINS. First (1942) edition. Racine: Whitman, 1942. First printing. 12mo, original blue cloth, gilt. 126, (2) pages; text illustrations. Fine. A strictly fine copy of the first printing of the first edition of the familiar Blue Book. The existence of two distinct printings of the first edition is a recent discovery. The most obvious difference is at the bottom of page 70. In the first printing, the mintage figures for only the first nine months of the year are given for the 1941 half dollars, while in the second printing, the full annual mintage figures are given, followed by a two-paragraph notice regarding condition and mintages. Other differences exist.
