Zieber, Eugene. HERALDRY IN AMERICA. Second edition. Philadelphia: Bailey, Banks & Biddle Company, 1909. Small 8vo, original red cloth; front cover with fine gilt rendition of the Great Seal of the United States impressed in gilt; spine ruled and lettered in gilt; all page edges gilt. 427, (1) pages; fine color frontispiece of the Great Seal; numerous text illustrations; 8 plates, 2 in color. Near fine. A beautifully produced and useful work, described by John Ford in the June 13–15, 1967 New Netherlands sale as follows: "Invaluable to any serious numismatist interested in other than the regular coinage series. A book of extreme importance. The origins, development, and historical aspects of colonial to modern (nineteenth century) American Heraldry are explained and illustrated, and a Glossary is included that explains practically every heraldic term likely to be encountered. The chapter on Colonial Societies and American Orders complements the data given in the work by Hood & Young, while the data on American Seals (from British to Territorial and State), would be of use to the collector interested in such diverse fields as Colonial Paper Money and National Bank Notes."
