India 1917 P-1e PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ 1 Rupee (Consecutive Pair) With Booklet Cover
A spectacular consecutive pair of this scarce variety of the 1 Rupee with the portrait of King George V. As the portrait of his majesty alludes to (displayed on a coin) these were issued during a coin shortage caused by World War II, when virtually all silver and gold coinage was hoarded by the populace and there was a sudden and urgent shortage of circulating specie. What makes this lot particularly interesting is that it includes the original booklet cover that at one time contained these notes. Very unusual as such, most of these booklet covers were discarded, and they are rarely seen in the marketplace today. An important opportunity for the Indian specialist not to be missed. PMG mentions "With booklet selvage" on both notes. The booklet cover has not been graded but is in overall excellent condition.
