Somalia 1971 P-16a PMG Choice UNC 64 100 Scellini = 100/- Shillings

The first series of banknotes of the Republic of Somalia, introduced shortly after the country was founded, are a fascinating series that is worth taking a closer look at. First introduced into circulation in December 1962, the series would go through a number of dates, all of which range from scarce to downright rare. Collecting the series is a formidable challenge, especially in uncirculated grades, as the country saw limited foreign visitors and large quantities of notes were never brought to the collecting community. Offered here is the final date of the highest denomination in pleasing choice uncirculated condition. The slightest hint of toning along the edges prevent the EPQ grade, but the note is as fresh and original as this series comes, with strong color and good eye-appeal. It is surpassed in the PMG population report by just a single finer example.
