Charles I (1625-49), silver Shilling, Tower Mint, Group E, type 41var., fifth larger crowned bust left, rounded shoulder, single arched crown, large value XII in field behind, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark anchor prostate (1639-40) both sides, .CAROLVS D; G; MA; BR; FR; ET. HI; REX., rev. long cross fourchée over quartered shield of arms, .CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO, 6.04g (Sharp F5/1; cf. Brooker 529; N.2320; S.2795). Toned and slightly indented on flan, an otherwise appealing central strike with some wear to the left portion of the obverse, good details on reverse coat of arms, patches of lustre in fields, graded by NGC as MS61, very rare in this grade.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
