George IV (1820-30), gold Sovereign, 1821, first laureate head left, B.P. below neck for designer Benedetto Pistrucci, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F:D:, rev. St. George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue, raised WWP on ground line below lance for Master of the Mint William Wellesley Pole, edge milled, 7.96g (Bentley 12; Marsh 5; S.3800). Toned, some light surface marks around obverse edge, reverse perhaps once cleaned, almost very fine.

The calendar year output of gold for the Coronation year of 1821 was the highest of the reign at £9,520,759.

The Latin legend translates as "George the Fourth by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
