Offa, King of Mercia (757-796), silver Penny, light coinage (c.780-792), Canterbury mint, moneyer Pehtwald, cuirassed bust right extending to bottom of coin, beaded circles and legend surrounding, .+.O.FFA.R.EX.+:., rev. long cross fleury on limbs over small saltire cross of petals in centre, pellets in angles, within a Celtic cross, moneyer name in angles, beaded circle surrounding, P.E / HT. / V.A / Lδ (ligatured), 1.23g (Chick type 128; cf.Blunt 75; N.294; S.905). Toned a little unevenly having been once cleaned with some slight porosity having been recovered previously from the soil, with a pleasing portrait, graded by NGC as AU Details (Environmental Damage), very rare.
