Offa, King of Mercia (757-796), silver Penny, heavy coinage (c.792-796), London Mint, moneyer Eama, King's name in three lines divided by pellets, Mercian m surmounted by a contraction bar with trefoil of pellets either side, tall Latin cross at start followed by lozenge shaped O, :.M:./ +OFFA / :.REX, rev. moneyer name split across two lunettes divided by pellets, Latin cross at start and pellets surrounding, beaded bar across centre with triangular ends, +E:A: / .:M.A: with pellet inside M and one below M and A , 1.35g (Chick type 206; Blunt -; N.321; S.908). Toned, once cleaned and slight porosity having been recovered from the soil, otherwise a bold very fine and appears to be better than the other known examples in Chick or sold recently, graded by NGC as AU Details (Environmental Damage).
