George III (1760-1820), copper proof pattern Bank of England Token of Five Shillings and Six Pence, 1811, engraved by John Philip, small laureate and draped bust left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIUS III DEI GRATIA REX., rev. struck en Medaille, four line inscription, BANK / TOKEN / 5S. 6D. / 1811, within tied oak wreath, initials I.P. with first stop centrally placed under tie knot, stem points to left, 24 acorns in wreath, 26.57g (ESC 206; Bull 1996; L&S 126; Davis 37). Toned with subdued proof brilliance, some minor spotting on obverse, otherwise an appealing example, previously graded by NGC as PF63 BN but now broken out, very rare in this condition.
