China
Qing Dynasty. Kuang-hsü Shangdong Gaobianbao ("High-Sided") Sycee of 50 Taels ND (1875-1908) Certified MS62+ by Gong Bo Grading, cf. Cribb-IX.A.78. 106.5x72.6mm. 1847.9gm. Stamped in three sections, the top row reading: "De Zhou" (city in the Shandong province), the right column reading: "Guan Xu Nian Yue" (Kuang-hsü Period), and the left reading: "Yin Jiang Xu Yan Ling" (smith Xu Yan Ling). No additional stamps. A challenging 50 Tael-type, let alone in such high grade. Retaining somewhat frosty crevices that still bloom the luster from when cast and struck. Likely produced towards the end of Kuang-hsü's reign considering the same silversmith is also known to have operated during the early Republic.
