Hsüan-t'ung silver Pattern 1/2 Dollar (50 Cents) 1910 MS61 PCGS, Tientsin mint, KM-Y23, L&M-25, Kann-220. By Luigi Giorgi. A wonderfully pleasing example of the few collectible Imperial Half Dollar issues, this type being the most frequently encountered, and almost invariably in sub-Mint State condition. The present example is decidedly uncirculated and blessed with a particularly lovely obverse, where the dragon floats effortlessly on a completely untoned, argent and lustrous surface that is quite astonishingly practically free of distracting blemishes even when scrutinized under magnification. The reverse side faces up with blast white fields that admit a scattering of marks and a brighter spot to the mint sheen when viewed in an angle, rather inconsequential as a whole. An impressive example when all elements are considered, and one we anticipate will be bring much excitement as it crosses the auction block. From the Monrovia Collection
