Hupeh. Republic Yuan Shih-kai 20 Cents Year 9 (1920) AU53 ANACS, Wuchang mint, KM-Y406, L&M-191, Kann-765, WS-0887, Wenchao-1058 (rarity 2 stars). With characters "Hu Peh" to either side of bust. A fascinating and wonderful provincial minor displaying the homely portrait of Yuan Shih-kai. This issue is actually the sole Republican silver issue known to have been produced at the Wuchang mint. This particular representative is toned throughout, exhibiting waves of multi-color pastel patina. The most dominant colors in this impressive toning scheme are flame red and sea-green. The obverse bust is rather well-struck up and only shows signs of very light rub on the highest points of the design. This offering will be a welcome sight for serious Chinese collectors who prefer their coins with a healthy level of patination.
