Gallinazo-Viru Canchero. A fine Gallinazo-Viru canchero from Peru, ca. 1 - 100 AD. This rare ceremonial water dipper is 10-3/4" long; its lentoid chamber is 7" in diameter and is extensively decorated with the traditional negative resist designs characteristic of the type. The tapered handle is elegantly curved and the burnished red slip shows extensive mineral deposits. E. Gallatin estate. Value range $300 - $450.
