Maya Chiefs Bowl. A gorgeous Maya Chiefs bowl from El Salvador, ca. 250 – 400 AD. This elaborately decorated example is 6-3/4” in diameter and features 12 seated lords, painted alternately with red and black bodies. The interior is decorated with five vultures arrayed around a central Lamat glyph symbolizing the eighth day of the ritual calendar, which is associated with the Heavenly Dragon.
