A COLLECTION FORMED BY PAUL STEVENS, SULTANATES Shams al-Din Ilyas (AH 743-758 / 1342-1357 AD), Gold Tanka, Firuzabad, AH 750, legend in single line square border, rev legend in square within circle, 10.92g (G&G B146). Extremely fine, clear mint and date, very rare.
After a period of schism and separatism Ilyas succeeded in reuniting the Bengal Sultanate in 753h and in 756h, after a treaty with Dehli, Bengal was formally recognised as an independent kingdom.
