A COLLECTION FORMED BY PAUL STEVENS, SULTANATES Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad Damghan (AH 740/41-745 / 1340-1344 AD), Gold Tanka, Daulatabad, AH 741, 11.63g (G&G MD12). Flan flaw at edge and in centre where there is a hole, perhaps ex-mount, otherwise about extremely fine and extremely rare.
Damghan's gold is extremely rare. The mint name here is puzzling and presumably refers to Madura itself rather than the Daulatabad of the Deccan. Although the famous traveller, Ibn Batutah, was in Madura around this time for while, very little is know about the history of this short-lived Sultanate.
Estimate: £5000-7000
