The Peace of Westphalia was officially signed in 1648, ending the Thirty Years' War. However, by 1650, negotiations were still ongoing in an attempt to resolve some details of the treaty's terms. In particular, the issues of war reparations and prisoner exchanges were unresolved. Nürnberg was the site of these negotiations, which were commemorated in a series of coins. The smaller versions of these types are more commonly encountered; this ½ thaler size (Halbtalergewicht) is quite scarce.
